“Some crashes affect the whole area. She came from a nice, close-knit family. Farming background, three brothers -all protective of her. There’s their only sister, the only daughter, gone. And they’ll never get her back. It broke my heart, it broke their heart.”
Senior Constable Jane Whitmore is based in Balclutha and is part of the Southern District Police force. Sadly, attending road crashes is a common reality for Police, but they are no less affected by the impacts of road deaths than anyone else in the community.
Senior Constable Whitmore talks about a particularly poignant road crash she attended, the memory of which has stayed with her to this day. For Jane, even one is too many.
